In a world where our climate needs us more than ever, how do we encourage sustainable shopping?

The Kind Collective

Let’s be kinder to our planet, one conscious choice at a time.

Project Scope

Objective:
Fast fashion contributes to climate pollution, with an increase in landfills around the world. As an initiative for us to be kinder to our planet, the app gives people an easy way to shop sustainably, all from the comfort of their home.

Timeline:
Student Project, February 2024

Tools Used:
Figma, AI (Recraft)

Frustrations:
It can be difficult to know how to integrate sustainability into a person’s life. Vintage shopping tends to be a time-consuming activity, forcing people to rely on fast fashion for cheaper prices and more convenient processes.

Solution:
To encourage people to shop sustainably by offering rewards in exchange for their donation, as well as giving them an easy way to donate their unwanted clothing. Native designs for both iOS and Android devices offer familiarity and accessibility, allowing the product to reach the maximum amount of people. A simple, easy to use interface provides a straight-forward solution, making it the best choice for those looking to shop sustainably.

The User Journey

When considering the user flows, I wanted to keep it simple, ensuring complexity does not get into the way of sustainability. Allowing a full understanding of the app at first glance will allow the users to donate as seamlessly as possible, encouraging the continuous use of the application.

Using a rewards system to encourage sustainable shopping.

When users donate their unwanted clothes, they earn points, which in turn can be used to get discounts on second-hand clothing.

Design Systems

The application design follows two design systems: Material Design & iOS

To provide familiarity across the two native applications, they share a colour scheme:

Building a Relationship With The User

Following the user throughout the application is an Earth avatar, it lets the user know when they’ve completed an action, when they need to take an action, and when something has gone wrong. Giving the application a personality allows it to engage with the user, making them feel comfortable and forming a connection, further encouraging the usage of the app and most importantly, sustainable fashion.
